Crowns/Bridges at Today’s Dentistry in Gibsonia, PA
A crown repairs a cracked, broken, or excessively decayed tooth.
A dental crown is essentially a tooth cover made of safe, durable dental material that sits snugly on the base of your gum line, with the look and feel of a natural tooth. A cracked or broken tooth is not only an issue in terms of appearance. If left untreated, it can extend the damage to the root and cause even more problems. Because an excessively decayed tooth can no longer hold a filling, a crown is a long-lasting solution.
What to Expect at Your Dental Crown Appointment
- At your first appointment, the area of your tooth will be prepared so the crown can fit over it.
- An impression of the tooth will be sent to the dental lab for the crown fabrication.
- You’ll be fitted with a temporary crown over the tooth until the permanent crown is made.
- At your second appointment, your new crowns will be placed.
Dental Bridges
If you suffer from one or more completely missing teeth, a dental bridge can restore the look and function of your teeth. A bridge is a fixed device (not removable) that, like its name implies, bridges the area left by a missing tooth or teeth. A bridge is affixed by crowns to the teeth or implants on either side of the affected area, with the implant(s) fitting in between.
